Deciding When a Title Has Been Assessed Enough

Evaluation has a point of diminishing returns and it arrives earlier than most people expect. Recognising it prevents both of the common errors: abandoning a game before its structure is understood, and continuing long after everything obtainable has been obtained.

What a session can establish

Round rate, interface behaviour, legibility, hit frequency in a rough band and roughly where the feature interval sits. All of that is available within a few hundred rounds, and a few hundred rounds is under an hour on most builds.

Beyond that the additional information per round collapses. Doubling the sample narrows an error band by a factor considerably less than two, and the bands were already wide enough that the improvement changes no decision.

What no session establishes

The return percentage. It is a limit approached over millions of rounds, and any figure computed from a session is dominated by noise. Continuing in order to verify it is the clearest case of effort producing nothing.

The stopping rule

Stop when the notes stop changing. If a further hundred rounds through a build on DemoSlotVibe would not alter a single figure already written down, the assessment is complete and the remaining time is spent for entertainment rather than information.

This requires having written figures down, which is the reason the note-taking matters beyond mere tidiness. Without a record there is no way to notice that nothing is changing.

  • Write down each figure as it is established
  • Stop when a further sample would not change them
  • Do not attempt to verify the return percentage
  • Record the interface faults separately
  • Keep the notes for future comparison

The case for stopping early

A game failing on legibility, control layout or round rate has failed on properties that will not improve. Continuing in the hope that familiarity resolves them wastes the time that a different candidate could have used, and those faults are visible within minutes.

Keeping the record

Structural facts do not change between visits. A build assessed once is assessed permanently, and a short note filed away means the next encounter with the same title costs nothing at all rather than repeating the whole exercise from memory.

What the discipline buys

More titles assessed in the same total time, and decisions made on comparable notes rather than on whichever game happens to be open. That is a better position than any amount of extra time spent on a single build could produce, and it comes from stopping rather than from persisting.
